This beautiful illustration by Gabriel Ugueto, depicts a scene in the early morning of the Early Permian Period (Artinskian to Roadian Ages 295–272 MYA). A Dimetrodon (Two measures of teeth) takes a nap while basking. Captorhinus ("who catches something, of the nose." An extinct genus of captorhinid reptile.) climbs on its head escaping a hungry Varanops ("Short monitor faced." An extinct species of varanopid synapsid.) nearby. Along with a group of Cacops ("Ugly look", is a genus of dissorophid temnospondyls) walking by in the background.
